Residential / Commercial Building, Baden

These two converted listed buildings on Weite Gasse, a residential and commercial street in the historical oldtown of the city of Baden, are located at the head of an archetypal historical terrace. Framed at both front and back by public squares, the two buildings were previously occupied by an Italian clothing company. The change of tenancy enabled a new concept for the buildings’ future use. Guided by a general preference for central inner city living, the client adopted the proposed conversion of both buildings to residential use, culminating in a renovation of the upper floors into six new apartments.

At ground level, the commercial property was retained and the buildings’ entrance was reconfigured to guarantee disabled access while enhancing its relation to the street. Daylit and thoughtfully laid out spaces have been supplemented by made-to-measure built-in furniture. The project is marked by a focus on high quality design and materials as well as craftmanship, befitting the highly sought after location.
